Advisory on Barrier Nasal Sprays – September 10, 2021

Commercially available nasal sprays with barrier protective effects may have a role in the mucosal defense against pathogens and contaminants. However, the Philippine Society of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (PSO-HNS) reiterates the stand of the FDA that these should not be used as substitutes for medicines and vaccines to prevent or treat COVID-19. PSO-HNS continually reviews all relevant data regarding COVID-19, particularly those pertaining to ORL-HNS practice, and releases advisories as needed.
